Little Plumeria Farms with a Toddler

Coming to Oahu can be so overwhelming especially if you are bringing a Toddler! You need to find a place to stay, make sure you have access to toddler friendly food and come up with family fun activities to do that is great for the entire family. My sister-in-law is visiting us on Oahu from California. She came across Little Plumeria Farms and wanted to go! After looking at their website I thought this would be such a fun activity for all of us to do including my 14 month old toddler!

According to their website, growing plumeria trees started by Jim Little as a hobby over fifty years ago in 1973, the farm has grown into a world renown plumeria farm run by three generations of Littles – Jim, son Clark and grandson Dane. With 20 acres of plumeria plants, Little Plumeria Farms is the largest collection of rare hybrid plumerias in the world.

In 2023, the farm opened its gardens to the public for the first time by offering special guided tours.

These tours let you experience walking through different plumeria gardens, surround yourself with plumerias on all sides in the Plumeria fields and pick your own flowers in designated areas. The owners come out and share stories behind these beautiful and fragrant creations and teach you how to grow them yourself!

From doing our own research they have very limited spots to attend these guided tours so it’s best to get your tickets online and early!

We opted to do an 11 a.m. tour and it was perfect because my daughter took a quick morning nap on the drive up to their gardens. By the time we checked in we were back in our car driving to their actual plumeria garden location. Tickets are about $45 a person and my 14 month old daughter was free.

Once we went to their garden location we were able to briefly walk around the gardens, smelling the flowers on the tree and seeing the many different shades they come in. Then the owners come out and share the history behind their garden! It was so much fun! They hold small groups of about 15-20 people and it was perfect! One fun thing about doing excursions in Hawaii is that people tend to be nicer. What I mean by that is when my daughter was being very vocal and loudly saying “FLOWER” those nearby smiled and waved at her! It’s great to go on a toddler friendly excursion!

After being shown about 20 different kinds of plumeria flowers we all walked around and viewed new plumeria trees freshly planted. We held our daughter throughout this little tour. Afterwards we were given little green bags and were able to pluck our own plumeria flowers off of the trees! My daughter loved this section. We set her down and she took off. She was running around all of the plumeria trees picking the flowers that fell on the ground and having a blast! It was pretty warm outside and my daughter even got a little tan. We all had so much fun and I would highly recommend doing this excursion if you have the time and have toddlers who love to run around!

They even had a gift shop where you can buy t-shirts, hats, plumeria seeds, stickers and more! You do get to leave the farms with all of the flowers you picked and it’s best to keep them your fridge so they last longer.

A few days later we ended up putting the flowers we all picked in her toddler water table and it was so much fun! She would play with the flowers, pick them up out of the water and even put some in her hair. It was a great way to incorporate the flowers we picked and it kept her entertained without the problem of a huge mess!

Thank you so much for reading!
